Registration of Personal Credit Information

CCB is a consumer credit bureau providing credit reports to participating institutions (the CCB Members) and, of course, to the individuals themselves. CCB adheres to a strict privacy policy and does not use personal data in any way other than for intended purposes. CCB does not sell or provide personal data to anyone else. It is important to understand that there are various benefits of CCB’s credit registration.

In addition to providing transparency and maintaining high privacy standards, we adhere to international best practices and make efforts to maximize the benefits of CCB’s credit registration.

Every person is entitled to request a copy of his or her own credit report to verify if the information on the report is correct. On the report you can also see which institution has accessed your credit report. All access to your credit report is listed, also if CCB accesses your credit report, which is only done when you request a copy of your report. There is a small cost to obtain your credit report

I need a copy of my CCB credit report

You can obtain your credit report as follows:

At your bank or any other CCB Member you can sign a form and show your ID.
Visit us at our office to request a copy of your personal credit report

To protect your privacy, credit reports will only be given if requested in-person. You cannot authorize anyone to obtain it on behalf of you. Please read our privacy section for more information about our commitment to your privacy. If you have questions about this, please contact CCB.

What is the cost to get my credit report?

Everybody can get a free report once per year. If you wish to receive your credit report more than once in a year, it will cost you Ang 10, – per credit report to cover administrative costs.

My credit report seems incorrect

If you see that your credit report that you obtained directly from CCB is not correct, please review what gets registered and how, and if you still see errors, you can take the following steps:

Check on the report which institution the registration relates to
Contact the institution and discuss the error
Important! Only the institution can make corrections to information on the report, CCB cannot make corrections
If you feel the institution is not making an effort to resolve the error, please contact CCB
You have rights to a dispute resolution process if an error is not being resolved by the institution

Who has access to my credit data?

Only you and the CCB participating institutions have access to your personal information and credit related information.

We are a closed credit bureau and only provided data to participating institutions (the CCB members). Access to CCB is limited to printing a credit report for you when you request CCB to do so. We do not provide any information to local or international authorities unless we are required to do so by the courts of law.

If a non-member requires your information, you will have to request a report from us and you of course have the right to provide your information to anyone that you wish.

What is my credit data used for?

Only participating institutions have access to your credit report. They use the credit reports for two purposes:

As part of their new loan due diligence when you request a loan
During periodic file reviews on existing loans

Members are not allowed to access anyone’s report for any commercial or non-commercial reasons other than the two reasons described above. If a Member accesses anyone’s report their access is registered on the credit report and if you notice that someone has accessed your report that in your opinion should not have done so (for example you never applied for a credit at that Member) please report such incident to CCB.

You yourself have the right (but not the obligation) to provide your credit report to anyone you wish. You can obtain a copy of your credit report from CCB at any time.

What data about me is registered?

CCB registers the flowing information if and as submitted by the Members:

Name, address, ID, phone numbers and email addresses
All credits (including credit cards, overdrafts on accounts)
For trade credit (purchases on account) only if overdue
Bounced checks that you have written
Status of the loans and trade credit (current, arrears, default, payment arrangement etc.)
Monthly payments (principal and interest)
Access made to the accounts
Bankruptcy
A summary score

All information that we register is disclosed on your credit report.

How do I get my credit report to see what information is registered about me?

We respect the rights of individuals as provided for in the applicable personal data protection laws as well as international best practices. We summarize your rights as follows:

Transparency: you have the right to get your credit report to see what data is registered about you at any time
Privacy: your data is treated highly confidential and is not accessed by anyone unless there is a need
Security: data is handled and store using the highest security standards
Limited disclosure: only credit issuing institutions have access to your data
Error correction: if your credit report is incorrect, the members are required correct the information
Dispute resolution: if there is a valid dispute, there is a possibility to submit a request to an arbitration committee
